Life Insurance for Veterans, Military Families & First Responders
You served your country. Let a veteran-led team make sure your family is protected — with honest comparisons of VGLI, private coverage and plans for service-connected conditions.

Why veterans need a plan after SGLI
While you serve, SGLI makes life insurance simple. After separation, the clock starts. Many veterans roll into VGLI without comparing options, then watch their premiums climb every five years. Others let coverage lapse entirely during the transition — often when their family needs it most.
Our advisors — including retired Coast Guard and Army senior enlisted leaders and a Marine Corps veteran — have been through the transition themselves. We lay out VGLI and private options side by side so you can make the decision with real numbers.
Coverage we help veterans compare
- Private term life — high coverage at a locked-in price for 10–30 years.
- Whole life — permanent coverage with guaranteed cash value.
- Final expense — smaller policies that cover funeral costs beyond VA burial benefits.
- Mortgage protection — keeps the home in your family's hands, including VA-loan homes.
- Annuities — protect military retirement savings and TSP rollovers from market loss.
First responders
Police officers, firefighters, EMTs and dispatchers run toward danger so the rest of us don't have to. Department group life insurance is a good start, but it is often limited to a multiple of salary and may end when you leave the job.
An individual policy stays with you — through promotions, transfers and retirement.

Veteran benefits, done right
We're not a VA claims service and we never charge for benefit help. Instead, we partner with trusted, vetted organizations that specialize in veteran benefits and make sure your insurance plan works alongside what you've earned. Learn about our veteran-benefit partners →
Frequently asked questions
When does SGLI coverage end after I separate?
Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) coverage generally continues for 120 days after separation at no cost. After that, you need to convert to VGLI, move to private coverage, or go uninsured.
How long do I have to apply for VGLI?
You have 1 year and 120 days from separation to apply for VGLI. If you apply within 240 days of separation, you generally won't need to answer health questions. Confirm current rules at VA.gov.
Is VGLI or private life insurance cheaper?
It depends on your age and health. VGLI premiums increase every five years as you age, while a private term or whole life policy can lock in a rate. Healthy younger veterans often find private coverage costs less over time; veterans with health conditions may value VGLI's guaranteed acceptance. We'll show you both.
Can I get life insurance with a VA disability rating or service-connected condition?
Often, yes. Many carriers insure veterans with service-connected conditions, and some offer simplified-issue or guaranteed-acceptance plans. Coverage and price depend on the condition and the carrier, which is why comparing several carriers matters.
Do you help with first responder life insurance?
Yes. Police, fire, EMS and dispatch families face unique risks and often have limited group coverage. We compare individual policies that stay with you regardless of your department or employer.
